What we can learn from Maximus

Let’s face it; Gladiator is one of the best movies ever made.  Who doesn’t finish watching it without feeling an internal strength emerging deep inside?  I started thinking about the movie and why it elicited such inspiration.  The main character Maximus’s exceptional spirit personifies the humble hero – the Christ hero.  It is not often we find men with such fortitude in mind and body.

What are the characteristics/beliefs that shape Maximus?

  1. Maximus sees beyond this life.
    • Prays often, honors his ancestors, believes in his family's reunion in the afterlife
  2. Maximus's heart is where his home is.
    • Turns down an offer to be Caesar of Rome for the simplicity of a farmers life
  3. Maximus finds strength in unity.
    • understands the law of synergy in battle
  4. Maximus is always focused on what's important.
    • Caesar speculates on the abstract meaning of Rome while Maximus interjects with the fact that his men are dying.
